Rien ne semble pouvoir arrêter le chanteur de heavy metal anglais, âgé de bientôt 59 ans. Deux ans après la sortie du dernier album de Judas Priest, Nostradamus, et quelques mois après la sortie de l’album solo Halford 3 : Winter Songs (où ce cher Rob proposait de nouvelles chansons ainsi que des reprises de classiques de Noël comme Oh Holy Night ou Come All Ye Faithful !), il nous revient avec un nouveau single solo, appelé The Mower. Oui, oui, "La Tondeuse". Avec le visuel, on sourit et on se dit pourquoi pas ?
Voilà ce que déclara Halford à la radio Metal Express il y a quelques jours :
"The Mower" was written quite a few years ago and there was some more recording of the drum tracks done to finish it off last year. It’s not important when it was recorded or how it was recorded, it’s the thing that ends up blasting out of your speakers that counts. It’s an unusual track and very different to anything we’ve done before. The way that the song was constructed is quite different. I tried mixing some ideas up and was thinking about lots of different things while the song was being made and I wanted to have a bit of fun with the spoken part at the front, it’s kind of like a Metal Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" !! I just thought I’d have a go at creating an atmosphere with the voice like a horror or a mystery thriller type of movie. It’s an unusual track to say the least. It’s full of amazing riffs and time changes and the mood of the song goes from some straight 4:4 riffs into some really heavy downbeats. Musically we just wanted to make something that we hadn’t done before.

Le single est téléchargeable sur son site officiel, et d’autres nouveaux titres seront peu à peu diffusés cet été d’ici la sortie du nouvel album, Halford IV - Made of Metal, prévu pour sortir en octobre. Halford a désormais son propre label indépendant, qui lui permet de mieux maîtriser ses sorties. Notons en particulier les sorties récentes de versions remasterisées et augmentées des deux premiers albums du groupe Halford, à savoir l’excellent Resurrection (2000) et Crucible (2002).
Pour ceux qui préfèrent l’animal en live, on leur conseille le tout nouveau DVD Halford - live in Anaheim, qui contient un concert intégral filmé en Californie en 2003, peu avant que Rob ne rejoigne Judas Priest pour la reformation du groupe, ainsi que 4 titres filmés au Japon, et un documentaire.
